Amblygeustia is my first drama film production which is also a project for my film studies course. Every group in the class was given a keyword that we must follow. 'Dessert' was what we received and at first it gave us headache because we couldn't think of how dessert could be the theme of our film. We decided that one of the girls in the group must lead the film as I was the only boy there and the ones who know cameras more.
We tried to think of extremes when establishing the framework of our story. We finally came up with the idea of dessert, delicious food, and a girl who has a weak sense of taste, the worst situation to eat dessert. It sounded so great that we immediately began developing the concepts into a full story.
While story writing is enjoyable, there were limitations that we didn't realise until preparing for shooting. For example, we originally wrote that the leading actress, the girl having a weak sense of taste, read about making desserts in a bookstore. We wanted to shoot the scene in Page One but then realised that such bookstore requires permission for filming. The bookshop at CityU was our last resort at that time and the scene turned out to be more than usable. We also tried recording voice-overs and dialogues for our film. Dialogues were the harder ones to edit because good editing should also take spatial and environmental factors into consideration. Since I was green in audio editing, the result was barely acceptable, which also taught me more about audio editing.
